OUR HISTORY

In 1860, John Weaver Greed emigrated from Somerset, England to the small country town of Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia. John Greed was to be the first generation of what is today the longest running Funeral Directors in South Western Victoria.

After arriving in Port Fairy on the boat lightening ship, John, with his parents Charles and Sarah and brothers and sister travelled 3 months by bullock wagon to settle in Hamilton.
When John Greed commenced the funeral business at 43 Collins Street Hamilton in 1861, little did he know that five generations later the business would still be operating in the same premises as founded in 1861.
In 1903, John Weaver Greed passed away leaving the business to his tenth child Frank Greed. At the age of 18, Frank become the managing director of F. Greed & Sons, becoming the second generation.
Frank worked the business with his sons John and Desmond, they being the third generation of F. Greed & Sons. In 1937 Frank and sons built the Chapel adjacent to the funeral home. Frank passed away in 1950. His two sons worked together until 1980 when sadly John also passed away.
Desmond and wife Nancy and three sons Peter, Terry & Robert continued to work the funeral business along with their wives. Within a short time Desmond, Peter & Terry had passed away.
Today Robert & Dianne continue as Managing Directors of F. Greed & Sons along with their children Troy & Cherie.
F. Greed & Sons the fifth generation of a very proud, historical and traditionally family business still serving Hamilton and District.
